About
Recently lauded by Boston Musical Intelligencer for her “warm mezzo tone”, Hong Kong mezzo-soprano Jeannette Lee is a sought-after versatile performer based in Chicago, IL.
Jeannette was a finalist in the 8th Concurso Internacional de Canto Linus Lerner. She was also a prizewinner in 2023 William C. Byrd Young Artist Competition and received the Hilda Harris Mezzo Soprano Prize at the 2022 George Shirley Vocal Competition.
On the international concert stage, she has appeared as a soloist in Bach’s Mass in B minor and BWV70 & 130, Beethoven’s Chorale Fantasy, Handel’s Dixit Dominus and Messiah, Britten’s Cantata Academica, Monteverdi’s Marienvespers and Osvaldo Golijov’s Oceana.
Jeannette’s operatic roles include Cherubino in Le nozze di Figaro (Mozart), Hänsel in Hänsel und Gretel (Humperdinck), Fox in The Cunning Little Vixen (Janáček), Hermia in A Midsummer Night’s Dream (Britten), and Antonia in Das Liebesverbot (Wagner).
Jeannette recently premiered the role of Mom in Emily Koh’s HER | alive.un.dead with Guerilla Opera. This season, she appeared in Boston Lyric Opera’s Madama Butterfly as Chorus and Suzuki Study Cover, Annio in Opera del West’s La clemenza di Tito, Ottavia in West End Lyric’s Il giuoco del quadriglio, and Grandmother Lily in White Snake Projects’ Let’s Celebrate series.
Jeannette has appeared under the baton of Noah Horn, Vivian Ip, and Wolfgang Katschner. She also collaborated with TwoSet Violin on their first crowdfunded classical world tour together with Hong Kong Festival Orchestra. A champion of new works, Jeannette recently premiered Simon Andrews’ Seasons and did the East Coast premiere of Jenni Brandon’s Sea Smoke on Gichigami.
