About

Praised for her “warm mezzo tone” (Boston Musical Intelligencer) and “rare stillness and depth” (Interlude), Hong Kong-born Jeannette Lee is a dynamic singer, teaching artist, and vocal advocate with an international profile.

The 2025–26 season highlights Jeannette’s versatility, with high-profile choral debuts at the Aspen Music Festival and with the New York Philharmonic under Dame Jane Glover in collaboration with Music of the Baroque. She also makes first appearances with Apollo’s Fire and the William Ferris Chorale. On the operatic stage, she will be heard as Durra in Thompson Street Opera’s The People vs. American Cheese and tours as Doctor Dulcamara in The Elixir of Love with Opera for the Young. She also sings the alto solo in Bach’s St. John Passion at Rockefeller Memorial Chapel. This past summer, Jeannette joined Teatro Nuovo as a Resident Artist, covering Teresa in La sonnambula and performing in the ensemble of Macbeth.

Her operatic repertoire spans Baroque to contemporary, with roles including Cherubino (Le nozze di Figaro), Annio (La clemenza di Tito), Ottavia (Il giuoco del quadriglio), Hänsel (Hänsel und Gretel), La Ciesca (Gianni Schicchi), Hermia (A Midsummer Night’s Dream), The Child (L’enfant et les sortilèges), and Antonia (Das Liebesverbot). On the concert stage, she has appeared internationally as a soloist in Bach’s Mass in B Minor, Handel’s Messiah, Monteverdi’s Vespers of 1610, Beethoven’s Choral Fantasy, Britten’s Cantata Academica, and Golijov’s Oceana.

A champion of new music, Jeannette has premiered roles in Emily Koh’s HER | alive.un.dead (Guerilla Opera), Stephanie Chou’s Tamale Dumpling (White Snake Projects), and Beth Ratay’s In the House of Serenity (Boston Opera Collaborative). She has also introduced audiences to new song cycles by James Devor, Simon Andrews, and Jenni Brandon, most recently premiering Devor’s Three Views of Baldness at SongSLAM (co-presented by Sparks & Wiry Cries and the Source Song Festival).

Offstage, Jeannette is dedicated to education and advocacy. She is currently a teaching artist with Lyric Opera of Chicago and she serves as President of the Asian Opera Alliance, advancing equity and representation in the operatic field.
