About

Described to have “a lovely mezzo voice with lots of color, warmth and vibrancy,” Hong Kong mezzo soprano Jeannette Lee is a sought-after versatile performer who was awarded the Hilda Harris Mezzo Soprano Prize at the 2022 George Shirley Vocal Competition. She also received an honorable mention at the semifinals of the 2019 Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod Pendine Voice of the Future.

Jeannette’s recent operatic appearances include Guerilla Opera's concert premiere of Emily Koh's HER | alive.un.dead, Angelina in Rossini’s La cenerentola with Random Opera Company (United Kingdom) and Antonia in Wagner’s Das Liebesverbot with Cambridge Chamber Ensemble. She is engaged to appear in Boston Opera Collaborative’s Opera Bites production as Becca in Beth Ratay’s In the House of Serenity in January 2023 and will reappear in her role in Koh's HER | alive.un.dead with Guerilla Opera directed by Mo Zhou.

 

On the concert stage, Jeannette appeared as the understudy for Reginald Mobley in Handel's Dixit Dominus with the Cantata Singers under the direction of Noah Hornand was also a soloist in Bach’s BWV 130 conducted by Alejandro Hernandez-Valdez, Britten’s Cantata Academica under the baton of Vivian Ip, Monteverdi’s Marienvespers conducted by Wolfgang Katschner with Lautten Compagney, Bach’s BWV 70 with SingFest Hong Kong. She also appeared in the Asian premiere of Jacobsen’s For Sixty Cents with Cong Quartet.

Jeannette graduated from the Chinese University of Hong Kong double majoring in English and Music with First Class Honors and obtained her Master of Music from New England Conservatory as a recipient of the prestigious Hong Kong Jockey Club Music and Dance Fund. She is currently pursuing her Doctorate of Musical Arts degree at Boston University.
